Barrelhouse 6 opened in May 2021 on Middle Road in Hammondsport, and it has quickly become one of the most polished craft distillery experiences in the Finger Lakes. The building is a striking mix of wood and industrial design — think exposed beams, a massive copper still visible through glass, and artwork covering the walls — all anchored by a 108-foot deck that overlooks Keuka Lake. The aesthetic is intentional and cohesive in a way that many tasting rooms aspire to but few pull off. Reviewers consistently describe walking in and immediately knowing they picked a great spot.

The spirits are produced grain-to-glass and have the awards to back up the presentation. The Brothers' 1910 Bourbon Whiskey (sherry cask finished, 96 proof) scored 91 points and Gold from the Beverage Testing Institute and took Best in Class at the East Coast Craft Spirit Awards. The Empire Rye is earthy and complex — tasting notes include saddle leather, brown-buttered biscuits, and peppery spices — built for Manhattans and old-fashioneds. But the runaway crowd favorite is the Chocolate Cream Liqueur, which took Double Gold at the Finger Lakes International competition. Reviewers call it "adult candy" and "dangerous," and more than one person has reported buying a bottle specifically to put in their morning coffee. The cocktail menu is extensive: the Spiked Ovaltine (bourbon cream, amaretto syrup, chocolate, half-and-half) is indulgent, and the Floradora with their Sisters' 1924 Gin is a bright raspberry-ginger refresher.

Owners Joe and Kara — both lawyers who pivoted into distilling after Kara watched a documentary in 2012 — are frequently on-site, and the hospitality is personal. Multiple reviews highlight Joe coming over to welcome guests and offering impromptu tours. They also host bottling parties, distilling classes, and live music weekends. This is a destination stop, not a quick tasting — budget at least an hour, longer if the weather cooperates with that deck.
