Blue and red round fruits — Sheldrake Point Winery

Sheldrake Point occupies a 155-acre estate on a small peninsula jutting into Cayuga Lake’s western shore near Ovid. The property—which includes vineyards, a lakefront, and a converted dairy barn serving as the tasting room—has a quietly beautiful setting that feels removed from the busier wine trails. The winery has built a reputation for restrained, food-oriented wines, with dry Riesling, Gamäy, and Cabernet Franc leading the lineup.

The Gamäy, relatively rare in the Finger Lakes, is a distinctive offering—light-bodied and refreshing in the Beaujolais mode. Sheldrake’s dry Rieslings show clean minerality, and a late-harvest Ice Wine rounds out the high end of the portfolio. The Simply Red Café on the property serves light meals, and the dock is open to boaters arriving by water. For visitors who prefer a quieter, more contemplative tasting than the Seneca Lake circuit typically provides, Sheldrake Point is a strong alternative.
